Can you suggest a fast treatment for my crooked teeth?

Q.
Mark,

I have had very crooked teeth and a bad smile for years and have just gotten on with things. I now have a desire to address this but dont know what can be done. I have had them checked a number of times and my teeth are very healthy Ive been told. The are too crooked for invisilign and the main options it appears are orthodontics. However this is a long process and I run a business. I want to investigate a makeover and veneer option (or any other options that can be done in a month or so). Are you able to help me understand what can be done. I selected you for this question as you appear to have all the right mix of dentistry in your practice to be able to advise me properly on options and potential costs. I am 42 years old in case that may influences the advice. Much appreciated.

Very good questions. It’s clear you been thinking about this properly and for some time. Dental veneers would certainly offer you one of the quickest results and might be the right choice for you. What’s very important to think about though is the level of risk, to the health of your teeth, that you could be taking with veneers.

If the teeth are very crooked, too crooked for Invisalign to be effective, then it is likely that if we want to finish with the appearance of straight teeth, that a heavy preparation of your teeth may be required. If this is the case it puts the nerves of your teeth at greater risk than if they were only slightly crooked. So we must assess this risk before deciding if it’s the right choice for you.

Another option to consider would be fixed braces and these can now be custom made and made to fit behind your teeth so they are not visible. The celebrity Mylene Klass recently had these braces. This would almost certainly be the safer , healthier option.

Sometimes a combination of the two is needed to get the very best results, especially if the teeth are heavily worn down, mis-shapen or deeply discoloured.

The best thing to do would be to come for a consultation and you could also see one of our Specialist orthodontists as well if the lingual braces seem like the right choice.

I hope that helps you?

Feel free to email some photos of your teeth to my practice and we could take an initial look that way too?

Best wishes

Mark
