Can you offer advise on how to cope with severe peridontal disease?

Q.
Hi, I am 43 years old and have aggressive periodontal disease.
I have lost a few teeth already and this has totally destroyed my confidence, I brush, floss and use a mouthwash every day but I feel the damage done is so severe I can’t really reverse what has been done.I don’t smile if I can help it and was wondering if you had any advice for me,I regularly go for check ups and cleaning.
Many thanks
A.
I’m sorry to hear of your problems. Unfortunately a small percentage of the population are very susceptible to periodontal disease even though they do all the right things for the health of their mouth. Its worth seeing a specialist periodontist to see if there is any treatment that could be done for individual areas, otherwise keep up with the daily maintenance. In some cases I consider removing the teeth and placing dental implants before all the bone is lost, especially in progressive disease or where the appearance of the teeth is an issue. regards andrew
