Can you advise whether shaving my son’s teeth is good in the long run because he is having braces?

Q.
Re: SMILE 6 month brace. My son has severe lower overcrowding and a lower centreline shift to the right. We were advised that using this method of straightening, the dentist would shave between the teeth rather than extract teeth.Would shaving not damage or harm the health of my son’s teeth? Can you advise considering long term health of his teeth?
A.
Obviously shaving your sons teeth does damage them but provided this is done carefully there should be no long term consequences. Discuss your concerns with his dentist
