Can braces help with TMJ issue?

Q. I had braces as a child though I have not been wearing a retainer throughout the years because I was unaware that I needed to do so. Subsequently, my teeth have been shifting back to the original position. Additionally, I have been grinding my teeth at night and my jaw is slightly out of alignment as well. My question is whether or not braces will be able to fix not only my dental issue but the TMJ issue as well? Thank you in advance for your answer. Truly,
A. Hello, braces would rectify the problem with the crowding in most cases, however it is very difficult to predict whether the TMJ problem will improve with the brace treatment. i would predict that you may need some addition treatment such as a bite raising appliance to help your TMJ issue. regards Andrew
