Q. Hi Andrew I just have a general question regarding dental work. I have a bonded retainer on the back of my front teeth to keep them straight and together but a small part of the cement holding the wire there has chipped and so I am feeling quite a sharp edge on it (a bit like how if you shatter glass you get that sharp ‘nicking’ feel to it) which is making my tongue red and sore. I’ve been back to the orthodontist who applied the cement and he says that he can’t see anything wrong with it but it wasn’t like it before and its causing me a lot of discomfort for my mouth. Are there any other dental experts apart from orthodontists who can fix the damaged cement again so it doesn’t have a sharp edge to it anymore? I think the only way my orthodontist who applied the cement originally will only fix it if a substantial part of it comes off but currently its got a chipped edge to it on one side which is uncomfortable in the mouth.
