Can a root canal cause the neighboring tooth to be sensitive?

Q. If you have Bad tooth which you are about to have root canal treatment on and its caused your tooth next to it to become sensitive and slightly loose. Why is that?

A. It may be due to the size of the abscess under your tooth making the area generally inflamed. Hopefully once the abscess has been treated it will calm down.  The other possibility is that the other tooth also has a problem but get the root treatment completed first
