What are prices for cosmetic bonding?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Q. Hello, I am interested in the option of cosmetic bonding as my teeth are slightly even and discoloured. I would like to know the kind of prices that this would involve (I understand this will vary from dentist to dentist so just a rough idea would be great) Thanks

A. Thanks for your question, you are right in that the prices will vary between practices, but you should expect to pay between £80 – £150 for this treatment.
Many Thanks

How to protect the teeth if they have front teeth bonded?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Q. How do you protect your teeth if you have had the front teeth bonded? And what type of toothpaste should you use to keep your teeth from staining?

A. One way to protect your teeth would be to wear a night guard to protect them during your sleep.  Simple toothpasts form your local chemist/supermarket will do a good job to keep your teeth clean – you may want ot visit your hygienist as well!

What would be the cost for cosmetic bonding?

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Q. Hi my front teeth are perfectly together, however there is a small gap at the outer edge of them between the next teeth. I was wondering how much (roughly) would cosmetic bonding cost to make them look perfect and also how long does it roughly take? ( how many sessions?) It is something that has bothered me for ages and it affects my confidence so I am hoping to get it fixed. Also i have moved to Uxbridge area of Middlesex, so are there any dentists that you know of who could recommend to carry out the procedure, although if required i wouldn’t mind travelling into London. kind regards

A. Bonding takes one visit to do following a consultation. It would cost anything up to anout £400 deoending on the size. I do not know of anyone in this area but im sure if you search for a dentist in that area in google you will find many.

How long I need to wait to replace bonding after whitening?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Q. I have bonding, approx. 12 years old, on my two front teeth which are stained yellow. I am going to do an at-home whitening system. Do I need to wait 2 weeks after I’ve totally completed the whitening before I have the bonding replaced ? Thus, do I need to wait in order for my teeth to fully absorb & change color to the final “whiteness” in order to accurately match the bonding to the new white? Also, I’ve been told that I cannot do the ZOOM in office whitening because I have extremely sensitive teeth. Is this true as well?

A. Zoom is not advised for extremely sensitive teeth.
You should wait a week after finishing the whitneing before replacing the bonding to give them time to settle.

What are the options besides braces for closing the gap?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Q. I’m 15 years old, and have a gap between my two front teeth. Lots of my friends have recieved braces, but I was never offered, and I heard something about once your 16, you have to pay for them. I wondered what my options – besides braces – were for closing the gap, within a resonable price range.

A. If you have enough functional justification for NHS braces its free till 18 or 19 if your in full time education.
Simple ways to close gaps at 15 are bonding tooth coloured filling (  cosmetic bonding ) to do a Diastema closure.
Once your gum shape stabilises ( aound 18-21yrs old ) Veneers are a googd option for diastema / gapclosure.
if you pay private fees expecty around £100 per tooth, but as the gap is usually closed from both sides £200 per gap. AN NHS dentist might do a simplified procedure for free.

Is it common to have half moons on the tooth tips and what are the treatment options available?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Q. hi i have the start of tiny pittting to my front top 2 teeth but not decay. each tooth also has white half moons on the tips (i have been told these white markings are genetic) the white half moons change daily from white to yellow (have u ever heard of anything like this before). my dentist says i have 2 choices he can either bond my teeth which would enable him to tone down the white bringing the colour more all together or bleach my teeth. i dont know what to do? i dont want to damamge my teeth i dont want a holowood smile just a more uniformed coloured front teeth . kind regds

A. The white patches on your teeth can be caused by many things but often is due to a change in calcium metabolism at the time of the front teeth tooth formation.  My first treatmetn of choice would be totry bleaching but please be aware tha tthe white spots will get a lot whiter and stand out form the surrounding teeth.  However once the bleaching is finished you will find the white patches will fade to blend in with the whiter surrounding teeth.  If you still need bonding or veneers this can be done later

I have chipped my front teeth is it possible to have tooth bonding?

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Q. Hi there. I have recently chipped one of my front teeth. I do not wish to get it filed down as my other front tooth is a crown, and this would only make the crown look bigger! Is it possible to have tooth bonding on this front tooth? It is a small thin chip, and only noticable up close. If so does this need to be done privately or can it be carried out on the NHS? thank you for your time

A. hi if this is purely cosmetic which it sounds like it will be a private treatment . if it is a tiny sliver bonding does not always work but is worth a go if it bothers you

I lost teeth in a accident and i want to have my smile back

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Q. I had an accident and lost my 6 upper teeth and 6 lower teeth and had implants put in. I am 60 years old, blond, elegant modern and trim and would like to have a nice bright smile as I used to have. Here in Switzerland they are very conservative and as temporary teeth they have installed in my mouth some greenish teeth and I look like a smiling corpse! – my question is: what are the colours of teeth you would use in London for a bright smile if you do not have to adapt the colour to other teeth? Thank you so much for your kind answer.

A.

To achieve the bright smile you desire the colour can be what you want it to be.

The best option for you would be to arrange an appointment with a cosmetic dentist to discuss and preview what they could offer you, and what your desires and expectations are.

The colour will be tailored to your desire.

Can i get dental implants treatment at NHS?

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Q. Hi Dr Moore I would like your advice on what i need done to my teeth and where to start. Bascially when i was younger my front tooth was knocked out and over the years the gap has closed and the is no space for an implant. Im 22 years old and a student at the moment so cant afford £1000s. Would an NHS dentist do this type of work? or what would advive i do to start correcting this promlem, as it is really affecting me. thank you for taking the time to read this.

A. Hi, you may be able to find an NHS dentist to take on your case, however it does sound like you need complex cosmetic treatment possibly involving orthodontic (brace) treatment followed by either veneers and bridgework or dental implants. It might be good to enquiry into the possibility of a referral to a local teaching hospital where treatment is often free or at a reduced rate.

Is tooth bonding the best procedure for closing the gap between teeth?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Q. I have a gap between two of my front teeth and i was wondering what kind of treatment i could get in order to close the gap. I was researching about tooth bonding and just wanted to ask if you thought that would be the best thing to do in order to close the gap?

A. You would need an assesment to tell the best option for you. Bonding, Veneers & Orthodontics are all possibilities to explore.
The time taken , costs, and stability of the end result are points to consider.
We offer a free initial assesment to help point you in the right direction. Call Amy for details 0121 643 0610.

Can u advice me on subsidized cosmetic treatment?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Q. Hi Julian i need some advice i haven’t been to a dentist since i was in my early teens i’m now 29, My teeth are really bad and have been since a kid and have affected my confidence greatly i’m also terrified of the dentist since i was given gas as a kid and took a bad reaction to it. I know i have to do something with my teeth as they are only going to get worse and i need my confidence back as it holds me back, my fear is if i need cosmetic treatment and the cost i wouldn’t be able to afford the treatment as my teeth are that bad. Is there any instances where treatment done subsidised i really want to avoid false teeth. Any advice on what to do would be great thanks.

A. My best advice is to find a dentist near you who can offer a free consultation to discuss your trreatment options and costs

Advice whether dental implants can get rid of my breathe and gum problems and its cost?

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Q. Hi Dr. I have about three cavities and need my wisdom teeth out as they are growing towards the rest of my teeth so are causing discomfort. I also have gum disease and is making me uncomfortable in social situations. what im considering is having dental implants and having my wisdom teeth extracted also, but will this get rid of my breath and gum problems and can you give me some sort of price?

A. You coud consider implants for the missing or soon to be missing teeth although I doubt you need them to replace your wisdom teeth. However if you have an underlying problem with your gums you will need gum treatment first. This normally comprises visits with your Dentist and Hygienist, this is more likely to help your gum and breath problems than implants.

Can I have my veneers removed and have dental bonding done on them

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Q. h have veneers on my top 4 front teeth and they look very big. i have only had them done for a short time so if i had them removed could i have dental bonding applied to these teeth so i do not have to have the veneers

A. possibly but it depends on the prep underneath, often the veneers are too big because the teeth are under preped. Well prepared veneers shouldn’t look bulky

Removed the bonding from my teeth, they are now ugly and scratched, can something be dont?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Q. Hi, I recently got my two front teeth bonded to close the gap between them. There was a misunderstanding as I thought the bonding would only be placed in the gap between the teeth and not the surface. To my horror I had a thick layer of bonding placed on the surfaces of both teeth! I was really angry and asked to have it removed. She would not and told me it was not reversible. I removed the bonding myself with a fine nail file. Now I am left with a bunch of scratches on my two front teeth. My teeth were beautiful before all this and now they’re ugly! Is there anyway to get my old teeth back, or have I caused irreversible damage? Note, the scratches are not deep at all, it feels smooth but they look terrible! Please Help.

A. A simple polishing disc should solve the problem.  Obviously carried out by a dentist – not yourself with sandpaper form a DIY stored!  It is highly likely that the scratches are on the compostite surface rather than the enamel.

Which is the best option to fix a chipped tooth crown bond or veneer?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Q. I recently had my front tooth chipped on the bottom, the dentist filed it down too much. My choices to fix the tooth are a crown, bond, or veneer What would be my best choice?

A. It depends on how much tooth is missing, a veneer usually works well as it is less destructive than a crown but stronger than a filling

In profile my top teeth slant inwards as apposed to being vertical inline with my face

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Q. hi, i had braces when i was younger and had 4 teeth pulled out. now at 21 my teeth are straight but in profile my top teeth slant inwards as apposed to being vertical inline with my face. is there a way to bring my top teeth out and vertical? thanks

A. You could have the teeth realigned with orthodontics

or you could have cosmetic work to alter the appearance of your teeth.  If you are generally happy with your teeth I would suggest orthodontics.
