My wife & myself are considering having our teeth whitened by laser at a local beauty salon, should I steer clear?

Hi Dr.Butt.My wife & myself are considering having our teeth whitened by laser at a local beauty salon which offers a range of differnt products i.e Hairdressing,nail treatments,fake tans,massage treatments etc.My wife has informed me recently that the salon provides the above mentioned teeth whitening service.This has been advertised at a 99 pounds special offer but I have resavations about this type of service not being in a actual established Dental Clinic. Someone apparently visits the salon to provide this service.What would be your advice on this matter ? Thank You.

Hi ,
I am aware that clinics such as this may be having bleaching done by professionals who are not dentists. This is illegal as they may cause damage depending on the type of bleach used.
Proper whitening needs to be done over time and therefore must have a element done at home to truly have lasting results.
For this you need custom mouth guards and then at least 2 weeks worth of bleach.
1 hr whitening has a large element of dehydration so can be used in conjunction with home whitening but not on it’s own.
If you are not getting what I describe , then it’s a useless treatment . It does seem cheap for a professional product
