I Start Work Soon But I Can’t Have An Immediate Denture After My Extractions. Should I Get A Second Opinion?

Q.
I am dentist phobic – and I have gum disease – after visiting my dentist today for a scale and polish which I need to have done before I have extractions my dentist informed me that after I have my teeth removed I would have to wait 1 month before getting a denture. I asked regarding immediate dentures and he said no I would need to let it heal.  Should I go to another dentist for a 2nd opinion about the immediate denture? I start a new job within 2 weeks and will now probably have to turn the job down even though I was made redundant 6 months ago and it is a good job as I cannot do the job with no front teeth!

Hello and thank you for getting in touch. Yes I would go for a second opinion. Immediate dentures should be possible. Also ask what the long term treatment plan is for your gum disease – one ‘cleaning’ appointment is surely not enough? You should ask your dentist if you should be referred to a specialist? I hope this clarifies things for you. Regards Mark.
