i have been advised that for some reason a conventional bridge wouldn’t work, but someone recomended a Maryland bridge

Q. Hi there. At the moment i have a single top denture with a couple of teeth at the side and one tooth which is near the front. With this being a single tooth it has broken a couple of times as the joint is so delicate and i have had to have it repaired. At the moment i am having it repaired again as a crack has appeared accross the joint.I am so aware of this problem that i try to avoid biting on it which is difficult, and there are times when on my own that i take the denture out when i eat. If i don’t wear it i am very self concious of the gap with it being near the front. I am looking for a replacement where i can confidently bite and eat on it with not being afraid that it will break off. I am aware that an implant would solve the problem but i am also aware that they are very expensive. Could you give me some advice on this please, i have been advised that for some reason a conventional bridge wouldn’t work, but someone recomended a Maryland bridge. Would this be strong enough to give me confidence to eat and bite on it? I look forward to your advice. Regards

A. It’s not clear why the conventional bridge isn’t suitable but the Maryland is. The answer to that question would help on the suitability of each option. A chrome denture with a “backing ” might be another choice.
