How noticeable do you think a non-porcelain crown will be?
Q.
Hello Mark, I have just had a consultation with my dentist for porcelain crowns and found the price to be way out of my reach. However he gave me an alternative cheaper price for non porcelain ones but said i will have a black line at the top of these crowns between the crown and the gum. How noticable do you think this will be as i don’t want to be disappointed with the end result after paying that much money. Thankyou

If you have a very strong desire to have very good aesthetics then to have the highest quality laboratory work and the skill of the dentist is crucial. Porcelain bonded to precious metal can look fantastic but only in the right hands and in general it’s easier (but not always) to get a better result with all-ceramic.

It is usual that the higher the quality the more the cost, regardles of the type of crown, but your dentist may charge less for the porcelain/metal option as it may be an inferior quality laboratory?
Best that you go back in and discuss all this again before commiting to the final choice – you may have to lower your expectations if you are on a limited budget
Hope that helps
