I Have Severe Tongue Thrusting Habits That I Can’t Control, Please Help!

Friday, June 28th, 2013
Q.

hi
i have lots of gaps and spaces in my teeth and they are oushed forward and i cant stand them.
i have had braces before when i was 14 they were fixed metal braces but i never finised the treatment as i lost my retainers.

i have tried my hardest not to suck my tongue to the point i get jaw ache in the morning. But i have since relapsed and my teeth have been pushed out even further.

i suck my tongue and i cannot stop. i have looked into this and i have seen there might be some sort tongue retainer i could use to train my tongue to stop pushing my teeth forward subconciously.

please would you be able to recommend treatment for me as i want braces but do not want to do braces first without trying to treat my problem first.

hope you can help

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

My tooth got infected and I went through hell and almost lost the tooth. this one has a root canal in it and I am getting disgusted . the dentist said it will take 3 weeks for my tooth.i paid half already and  I sure don’t want to go through like last time..I already know if they continue to use the same cement that don’t hold, ill be going back more times to get it put back. are these dentist afraid to use stronger cement ,I have almost all my teeth with crowns and  I had crowns put in 35 years ago by a good polish dentist and I never had a temporary fall out . tell me whats the problem with these new dentist. and i never had a crown fall out. I feel like moving on to a new dentist give me some advise here maybe I can tell the dentist what cement to use .3rd visit coming up to have a new temporary maid since I swallowed the old one.

Can I Get A New Gold Onlay To Replace My Composite One?

Monday, April 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi, i have a composite inlay on the lower back molar, it got slightly chipped recently from having a wisdom tooth extracted which was next to it. I now want a gold onlay and have the old composite inlay taken out and the decay cleaned from underneath it. My question is how many carats of gold would be best suited to a back molar inlay and do the nhs do this under their treatment? (would 22 carats be good?) Also is it a good idea for me to request them not to add nickel, beryllium and cobalt (base metals) as these are commonly allergic metals and I am generally sensitive to lots of things. Thank you.

Since My Veneers Were Fitted I Have Been In Agony, Is This Normal?

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013
Q.

I have had 15 veneers 8 top and 7 bottom and have been in fairly severe pain with the bottoms from the start in each tooth and this gets worse at night when I lie down although maybe this is because of extended time without pain relief…. it has been 4 weeks since the teeth were ground down for the temps and 2 weeks since the veneers were fitted and I cannot go a day without fairly heavy pain killer doses..I did have a tooth extracted on the bottom but the pain is not in this area..thanks in advance for any advice.

My Teeth Are Too Far Back, What Can I Do To move Them Forward?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013
Q.

my mouth looks like its sucked in like an old man, it seems to me this is because my teeth are too far back and are not seen whilst talking, and my laugh looks terrible, what treatments are available to move my teeth forward and give a nice smile and not make my mouth look like its sucked in, this also causes my chin to stick out and my lips less visible, i am 25 years of age and haven’t been to the dentist in a while, i just want the quickest process available. thanks you

Why did my Denplan dentist not inform me about abscess? What should I do?

Friday, January 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi
Could I have some advice please? I have been a Denplan member for approx 20 yrs and about 12 yrs ago had a lot of crowns fitted. I am mainly happy with my dentist, albeit he is v busy and its hard to get appts and a personal service lately. He is often stressed. My question is that I felt that I wanted a 2nd opinion on a cosmetic filling that keeps coming out every 2-3 months or less which my dentist regularly replaces. My dentist informs me its because I grind my teeth. Also I had a abscess under a large crown which my dentist gave me anti-biotics for which helped although it hasnt gone completely.

I went to a private dentist to see if they could suggest a filling that wouldnt come out so regularly, he photographed/x-rayed my teeth and said that I still had the abscess under the large crown on the bottom which he says needed a root filling and also discovered I had a large abscess under a crown on the top which was leaking. I have felt slight pain in this area ever since I had the crown fitted (12 yrs ago) but my dentist said it would settle down. He has quoted me a price for the work. I feel confused as to why my denplan dentist hasnt dealt with the abscess on the top and have lost some confidence in him. I dont feel I can afford private treatment all the time and as I have been paying into the denplan scheme for a long time I feel I have invested a lot in it which should cover me. I now have a dilemma as to whether I should let the private dentist do the work that he has uncovered or risk offending my dentist by asking him about the treatment the private dentist recommended. I am also concerned that if I use the private treatment my dentist will ask me to leave Denplan or refuse to keep me as a patient. I am also concerned as to what happens if an abscess is left untreated under a tooth for so long as has happened with the top tooth. I am really conflicted about what to do and would really appreciate some impartial advice please. Sorry for length of e-mail.
KInd regards.

I have received a lot of dental treatment recently that has left me in a lot of pain, do I now need to seek further treatment?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi,
Back in April, I managed to break a back molar (second back top left) All wisdom teeth removed several years ago.
The tooth is directly above a gold crown.
The tooth required root canal treatment and a crown.
I had a silver crown fitted originally, which caused a severe metallic reaction, and was changed for a porcelain crown.
The first split on fitting, and the second has now been in place since August.
The tooth feels very large and bulges out on both sides.
It is very uncomfortable rather than painful, but I am constantly aware of it’s presence, rubbing my gum and tongue.
There is a throbbing sensation, and as I say, and constant awareness of it.
Whilst receiving treatment, the dentist said I had errosion to my two front teeth and applied a substance over them, which is rough, and also has a groove on the top of the left front tooth, and they kind of click. when I talk and eat.
I have not needed any dental treatment for twenty years, and have had this tratment leaving me feeling as though my mouth is not my own.
Given the trouble and time spent on sorting this (I had to take lots of time off work) I would welcome your opinion if its something I have to put up with, or seek further trattment.
Thank You

Is there ever a need to place an amalgam filling in the lingual fossa of a later incisor which is a pontic?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Is there ever a need to place an amalgam filling in the lingual fossa of a later incisor which is a pontic because this was done for me by my dentist when I complained of pain in that area?

Also I was told by another dentist that i would have to remove my bridge to get to the root of my pain problem in the area of my bridge as nothing came up on the x-ray. If I was to have my bridge removed, considering my abutment teeth on either side have had enamel removed in preparation for my first bridge, would it be possible to use them for anchoring teeth if a new bridge was to be placed?

Thank you in advance for your help. It is highly appreciated.
