Am I Stuck With Overlapping Front Teeth For The Rest Of My Life?

Q.
Okay Dr I have a slight issue with how straight my teeth are, it’s a little awkward because it is not my whole mouth. It’s simply my two front teeth overlap, the rest of my teeth are fine. It looks as if one of my two front teeth is longer than the other one. It looks terrible I don’t like to smile or laugh or even talk to people because I get so embarrassed. Lately they have been causing me some discomfort, I’ve been to the dentist many times and they say they cannot give me braces and I cannot afford to pay for them. Will a retainer do me any good or is there anything else you recommend? Or am I stuck with this for the rest of my life?
A.
Hello there, thanks a lot for writing in to us. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that you are stuck with this indefinitely. There are options out there to help you. If you choose a  retainer then this will help hold the teeth in their current position if they are indeed moving. It might be worth going to see another dentist to see if they have a different opinion on the matter.
