Thurso Dental Clinic Set to Open

Sample News Big

A councillor from Thurso has announced that the long-awaited Thurso dental clinic will open its doors to patients on the 11th January.

Community councillor, Don Smith, confirmed that the clinic, which is located at the Dunbar Hospital, will open in the near future after a long wait. Smith said that it had taken a long time for the clinic to open but it should be “welcomed with open arms” by residents.

The clinic cost £1.2 million and boasts state of the art facilities. According to Don Smith, the opening of the new dental centre will allow local people to access dental services on their doorstep, rather than having to travel to other towns, such as Wick and Golspie.

There are currently more than 4,000 people on the waiting list for an NHS dentist in the Caithness area, but this list should be scrapped when the clinic opens and patients will be invited to register with the new centre. People on the waiting list will be prioritised to ensure that they can see a dentist as soon as possible and the first batch of letters will be sent by NHS Highland to those who have been on the list for the longest period of time before the 11th January.

The new practice, which will be run by Dr John Barry, will have a capacity of 6,000 NHS patients once it is fully staffed.
