Woman has thirteen teeth mistakenly removed by dentist

A woman in South Carolina of America has been awarded £1.4 m ($2m) in damages from a jury after her dentist removed 13 of her teeth by mistake.
Elizabeth Smith, aged 28, underwent dental treatment back in 2006 at the Sexton Dental Clinic.
It is claimed Ms Smith initially went to the dentist to have a cracked tooth checked out, but after examination, was recommended the extraction of said cracked tooth and a further two.
However, after removing these three teeth the dentist then went on to remove a further 13 teeth, making the total number of teeth extracted 16.
Ms Smith is now believed to be about to undergo corrective dental work from the damages she was awarded. It is estimated that the cost of treatment will be in the area of £50,000 ($80,000).
Robert Ranson, hired to be Ms Smith’s lawyer during the trial, claims that the employees at Sexton Dental Clinic tried to alter the paperwork in order to hide the mistake they had made.
The clinic has however insisted they were not in the wrong and have said they may choose to appeal against the jury’s decision.
