There were smiles all round at a free dental clinic in Vancouver this weekend.

Eastside Emergency Dental Clinic offered free dental treatment for people in need on Saturday; many of the patients had not seen a dentist for several years and were suffering from extensive dental health problems as a result.

The clinic, which is located in the famous Downtown area of the city, was set up to offer much-needed dental care to people who could not afford the cost of regular dental treatment.

The Eastside Emergency Dental Clinic is run by the Vancouver Native Health Society; it was established in 2005 to help people who could not afford dental treatment or dental insurance cover. The clinic is largely run by volunteers, who offer both their time and their skills to help those who would otherwise struggle to get the treatment they need.

The clinic is currently trying to raise money to buy a new, state of the art steriliser, which will cost in the region of $5,000. One patient who received treatment at the clinic on Saturday, Timothy Tadege, has vowed to help the cause by spreading the word and encouraging people to support the funding effort. He said that he did not know of any other clinics like it and praised the efforts of all the volunteers and members of staff.
