Television makeover shows have led to a "big rise" in people seeking veneers, according to the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD).

It claims the popularity of veneers have increased by nearly 144 per cent, which can be attributed to the fact that the procedures are used "on pretty much every show".

Tif Qureshi, public relations manager for the BACD, explained that when improving teeth, veneers are usually the best option as they provide the most flawless result.

"Veneers also can be made very minimally as well; you don’t actually have to do a huge amount to the tooth to make the tooth look a lot better," he added.

Patients are becoming increasingly interested in technology advancements in the industry, Mr Qureshi continued, claiming that extra-thin veneers known as lumineers are becoming much more popular.

A survey by the BACD and Mintel found that more than one-quarter of people believe having cosmetic dental work done can improve their quality of life.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18380379-ADNFCR
