Keepers and vets at Copenhagen Zoo have released a video of Jenny the chimp undergoing dental surgery.

Jenny, a 37-year old chimp, needed attention after keepers discovered that she was suffering from toothache. The footage captures the procedure to remove the affected tooth.

Jenny was treated by specialist vets in partnership with the Hospital for Companion Animals in Copenhagen. Jenny was sedated before the procedure began, and the video shows the team tending to her before the vet starts work on extracting the tooth. The tooth is then removed, and Jenny was then given painkillers and taken to recovery.

The troublesome tooth was successfully extracted, and keepers are hoping Jenny will recover quickly and be back to her bubbly self.

The video clips were posted on the zoo’s Facebook page.

Chimpanzees rely on their teeth to break down fruit and vegetables, and even a minor infection can knock them off kilter, and make it difficult for them to ingest the nutrients they need. It is essential that dental troubles are treated swiftly, so that the animals can resume normal feeding patterns.
