A dentist from Sale successfully completed a gruelling 24-hour race, raising more than £1,300 for a worthy cause.

Chris Waith Maple Road Dental Practice in Brooklands recently completed the Thunder Run at Catton Park in Derbyshire, despite suffering a foot injury. The race, which involves sharp inclines, rugged terrain and incredibly challenging sections, took a lot of blood, sweat and tears, but Chris managed to navigate the course and reach the finish line. The race takes place over a 24-hour period and is a test of mental toughness as well as physical endurance and strength.

Chris decided to take on the challenge in order to raise money for Manchester Children’s Hospital, as his son Dexter has received treatment at the hospital since he was born with three holes in his heart. Dexter is now 15 months old and Chris and his partner Michelle wanted to give something back in exchange for the expert care and kindness their son has received.

Chris ran the race in relay with his running partner from Chorlton Runners, Lorraine. After seven laps, Chris injured his foot after accidentally catching a tree stump and Lorraine took on the lion’s share of running while the effects of the painkillers kicked in. In the final stages, Chris said he found the race very tough and it was pouring with rain, but his club mates cheered him on, playing Chariots of Fire and songs from Rocky to spur the duo on to the finish line.

Chris has now raised more than £1,300 for the hospital and was incredibly grateful to all those who supported him before and after the race and those who made donations to the cause.
