I Have A Dull Toothache Due To Bone Loss, Could The Dentist Remove The Nerve Instead Of Extracting The Tooth?

Q.

Hi Dr Moore. The question I’d like to put forward relates to having toothache due to bone loss which is caused by gum disease in my back molar. Can my dentist cure this by removing the nerve? She says my only option is to remove the tooth. She has already replaced the filling and the pain is still there. Not excruciating pain though and it is normally okay after one paracetamol but still a dumb pain never the less. I have scaling done to prevent the gum disease roughly once a month. The tooth is also very sensitive to hot and cold drinks and foods. Thank you for your reply in advance.
