Can the NHS Help Me With Funding for Braces?

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I am 24 years old and my top teeth are a mess. They stick out and when I was younger I used to get bullied because of it. It’s made my life hell, I have tried speaking to my dentist they have referred me to different orthodontists and they want £1,900. There is no way can I afford that sort of money for braces, I’m a full time mum on income support, does the NHS not help because I am older? I am so self conscious I never take pictures with my kids because I do not smile, it really gets me down and I can’t get to communicate with other mums at my son’s nursery because I feel people stare at me.

Hello, My Partner Recently Had A Procedure At The Orthodontic Clinic And He’s Still In Pain, Is This Normal?

Monday, October 21st, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. I’d like to discuss how my partner got a procedure done at hospital at the orthodontics clinic nine days ago. They cut away a fair size, triangle shape from the hard palette. He is still in extreme pain which we don’t think is normal I contacted them on Tuesday and she looked at his mouth said it was fine. Could there be a nerve showing maybe that’s causing the pain? Just feel it’s not normal to be in just as much pain nine days on, he only had the normal dentist for the procedure to be carried out. What would you suggest that we do, is it normal? Thank you for your time.

Hi, I’d Like A Rough Guide On How Much It Would Cost To Get Invisalign Braces Fitted?

Friday, September 20th, 2013
Q.

Hi I’m just inquiring about a price for invisalign braces for my top and bottom teeth as my two front teeth stick out a touch and my two bottom teeth cross over. I recently went for a consultation and the dentist told me that I would be a suitable candidate for the invisalign braces and would need to keep them on for about 12 months but that dentist was really expensive so if you could please give me a rough idea of how much it will cost for the treatment from you. Thanks.

The Bracket On My Brace Has Come Away Should I Be Really Worried?

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013
Q.

I have just had a metal brace fitted & less than 2 hours after fitting, I felt a small twang & on looking noticed that the bracket fixed to the one tooth that I have a porcelain veneer on (top tooth next to the main front tooth) but, had come away.

At the initial consultation, the orthodontist did say that he wasn’t sure whether the bracket would stick to the veneer or that the veneer might be damaged. I told him that the veneer was in fact 15 years old & I wouldn’t be too upset if I had to have it replaced. My orthodontist is closed on a Tuesday (tomorrow) & I don’t want to worry about this – can you advise?

My Two Orthodontic Consultations Have Conflicted With Each Other, Which Is Correct?

Monday, April 29th, 2013
Q.

Hi doctor!!

I have got a dental bridge done in my back upper tooth and also have an open bite.

I have been advised to have some orthodontic treatment as there is a slight overlap in my incisors and also the adjacent tooth are slightly smaller.

I have consulted two dentists and have got a little confused, hence the query.

While one says it can be sorted out by braces which will take 8-10 months or I can just get the front 4 teeth corrected by replacing my teeth with artificial ones which can enhance the smile, the other doctor is of the opinion that as I have a bridge, braces would be complicated and might take 2 years to correct the alignment or I can just get the front 4 tooth corrected by grinding them and placing veneers on top.

Also, I have read that veneer
s are not a good option for people who grind teeth at night and I am one of them.

Please suggest what should i do,.

Thanks in advance.

I Believe My Orthodontist Removed Teeth Incorrectly, Can I Take Any Action?

Friday, March 1st, 2013
Q.

Please Help! I need your advice on what to do. After a long 3 yrs, I finally had my braces removed. I had an over-bite & crowding on top and only crowding on the bottom. Due to this, I had 2-4 molar extractions & now I have spacings in between my teeth(s)! As soon as they were off, I told my ortho about the spacings & was told that if i wear my retainers they would close (It has now been 8 months!!!). I rescheduled an app. to see them & was told that I needed bondings because my teeth(s) were in in their correct position & they couldn’t be moved any closer. So I thought it was fine, I’ll get the work done but to only find out that it had to be paid out of my pocket! Since they were highly recommended, I sincerely trusted them & never questioned their judgement. I’m no expert but I believe that they shouldn’t have extracted anything & if they would’ve known better, they should’ve known that I would have spacing issues from the very beginning (I read that they can actually measure/calculate the size of your teeths to determine that this won’t happen). Now I’m worried that I spent all that money for nothing & I’m gonna have to live with the ugly spacings because of their mistakes.

Our experienced orthodontic assistant is undermining our new Doctor, what should we do about it?

Friday, September 14th, 2012
Q.

Is it possible for an Orthodontist to put a power chain from the Upper 3’s-6;s on an initial 014 niti wire?.
We have a new Doctor and we have experienced Assistant. We work in a managed Orthodontist office. The assistant. has been claiming that she has never put a power chain on an 014 Niti, and so she refuses to. Is her experience more knowledgeable than our new Doctor? please tell me because this is a question that has been on my mind. What would be an Orthodontist reason for this type of procedure. Should the assistant be even questioning any Doctors treatment, as there is different methods that the Doctor will obviously use? Thank you.
