Could I be allergic to my crown?

Thursday, August 18th, 2011
Q.

I had a crown placed on a back molar on July 5th, 2011. I was told it was a ceramic crown, with glass Ionimic cement with something called Metho Metholonate in the glue or cement. I have experienced hives in the warmest places of my body, every night, during sleep. I wake up at 5 am covered with large itchy welts that are even on my face and head. I was told there was no metal in the ceramic cap placed on my tooth. I was given a shot in the tooth area, and was awake during the process. Is it possible that I am still allergic to some of this anesthetic, or that there is some kind of alloy in the ceramic that is triggering these hives. I am at wit’s end. I haven’t got a food allergy, nor clothes soap etc. All have been tried and I still have these. Can you shed some light on the possible cause of these hives? I am taking two 25 mg. tablets of Hydroxyzine Hcl per night, and still experience the hives. Thanks you for your kind consideration.

Will my old, metal crown post cause me any harm?

Friday, June 17th, 2011
Q.

Hello doctor, I wonde if you could answer a quick question?

I have a crown diffused to metal and the dentist lately tried to remove it to adjust the color a little. The crown was done with temporary cement about 7 months ago. He tried hard but he could not remove the crown what I am worried about is that I have uncovered metal at the back of the crown from where he tried to remove it. Is this safe as I am concerned about drinking hot stuff and any leakage from the same metal since it is not covered with porcelain, im worried about the damage it could cause.

Thank you for your time
