I am on immune suppressant drugs for arthrits will this affect the root canal treatments success

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi – I have recently, somehow, cracked the third tooth from the back, lower jaw and on my right hand side. My dentist has removed the filling that was already there and put in a dressing which has eased the pain. I have now to decide whether to opt for route canal treatment and a crown or complete extraction. He advises the former. However I am wondering if it’s possible to simply have the route treament and then re-fill the tooth (to cut down on expense)? Another complicating factor is that I am on immuno suppressant drugs for arthrits – methotrexate and infliximab infusions (anti TNF treatment) and I wonder if this might affect the chances of a successful outcome. Basically I don’t want to go ahead and pay a lot of money if the route canal treament might not succeed anyway. Also, the corresponding tooth on the other side is nearly all filling so I suspect this won’t last too much longer either. Would I be best off opting for a crown for the one on the right hand side as they are both quite large teeth and presumably life would be difficult without both of them!! Would appreciate some objective advice from you. Many thanks

I had crown for 20 years and they need replacing now can this be done of NHS advice

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi there, 30 years ago I had a road accident which resulted in my having to have my four front teeth crowned as they were knocked back in the accident. I had some on for a while and then another set 10 years later which I have now had on for about 20 years. These now need replacing. So I would like to know if this can be done on the NHS and what are the best type to go for. What sort of questions do I need to be asking my dentist in order that the replacements meet my full expectations. Also would you be willing to so them for me and if so how much would it cost. This is a really big thing for me and I need to know I have the right man for the job. I look forward to hearing from you in due course. Regards

Hello Dr. Glaister; One year ago I had my four front teeth capped. Now this soon I have developed that black line at the gum line of one and going on two teeth. This started developing within a few weeks. All my dentist said he did not know why. I have since moved to another state. I was in Las Vegas, now in Boston, MA. Thank You,

I have my caps on my second front tooth and my gums are reciding again what can be done

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi I first have a question. When i was 11 i fell my front tooth came out and was put back in but the second front tooth next to it had to have a root canal at 18 i had it capped, within 6 months gums receded cap were really badly done, second time the caps were ok, but now my gums are reciding again and it does not look pleasant, am still very young, i fear losing my tooth in the process of capping and re-capping,i dont think tooth has a post. I was looking into your surgery and services as now that i can have all procelain cap without the metal plate, but is that a strong solution for a front tooth with root canal, are they as strong as porcelain with metal caps? i don’t want embarassing issues with a cap coming off? Do you provide this service, as i want my confidence back and want to come to someone who is a qualified dentist and a good cosmetic dentist please get back to me, i want to invest in my teeth wisely now that i can. Thank you

I had a canine crown and i need to ve another crown next to it what colour do i need to get it

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
Q.
I had a canine crown in April which has been great, however i am in the process of having another crown fitted right next to it. I am unsure what colour to have the new crown as i don’t want it to look odd next to my other tooth (which has a veneer overlay on it and is a different colour to my canine crown). My dentist has said that if i plan to replace the veeneer in the future i should have the new crown the same colour as my canine one, i may replace the veneer but as they are very expensive it wouldn’t be until next year at the earliest. Was just wondering what the best thing to do would be as i don’t want all my teeth to look different colours Thank you
