my daughter bonded teeth is shorter and discoloured than the other can you advice

Q.
Hello, can you please help!,i have a very distraught 16 year old daughter who a couple of months ago chipped one of her front teeth, leaving a semi circle chip at the bottom of the tooth. We took her to our usual dentist and he filled it,and it looked ok,but about 2 weeks later it came out, this happened again, then on the third time it came out she saw a different dentist as the other had left,he seemed to file down even more of her tooth and did a terrible job on the bonding, as now her tooth is shorter than the other and you can see a colour difference.I dont want to take her back there again as i feel it will just be made worst again!,can you give me some advice on the options for her tooth and recommend a good cosmetic dentist, this is quite upseting for her as she feels it has ruined her lovely smile. Many thanks

My two central incisors are chipped on the frontal side

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
Hello :)I’m not too sure how this happened, but my two central incisors are chipped on the frontal side. The dentin is actually showing through on one. There are deep lines on those teeth – best way to describe it. It’s painful and sensitive. I’ve been told to get veneers(too expensive for me), but I was wondering if it would be possible to put a composite material on it and polish. Do you have any suggestions. I’m in dental school right now, so hopefully once I get in an office maybe veneers could be an option.Right now, it’s not resonalbe for me though.

I am 48 year old with good teeth but upper tooth wear, dentist suggests composite fillings. Is there an alternative?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
I am 48 year old with good teeth but upper tooth wear to 3B,4B,6B, through brushing to hard- leaving my teeth worn away in a v shape at the gums. This has been like this for the past 10 years. I can see no change when I look at the wear myself. My dentist has said that I now need to have 3 composite fillings to these teeth as they are nearly at the nerve and I cannot wait any longer. Last year I had my teeth bleached via this dentist with a home treatment that lasted 2 weeks (£300). I completed this treatment without having these teeth filled why if I have no pain, no decay, do I need to have them filled now? I did an overnight bleaching top-up only last week before visiting the dentist for my regular 6 month check without any problems. It is not the cost of the treatment, the fact that I do not want three new composite fillings to my teeth with all that goes with that. My dentist said that I must come in for these fillings as I cant wait any longer. I have no pain nor did I point out any problem to him the wear is the same as it has been for the past 4 years I have an electric toothbrush that stop if you apply to much pressure. So I cant see any change – I had x rays done before having the bleaching done they did not show-up any problems. Is this treatment from what I have said necessary? Is there no other treatment available? I have read about liquid plastic that forms a hermetic seal and seals the nerve. Do you know of this treatment or any other besides composite fillings.

My teeth have been bleached and are whiter than B1

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008
Q.
Hi My teeth have been bleached and are whiter than B1 – they match the first new ‘bleached shade’. I have two teeth that have been cosmetically bonded with B1 resin but these now look ‘yellow’ compared to the others. My dentist says he cannot find a supplier of the composite resin to match the bleached shades. I know cosmetic dentists can obtain bleached shade resin – can you tell me where my dentist can obtain this from. Many thanks

what is the cost of composite on a chipped tooth

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Q.
How much should I expect to pay for a bit of composite on a chipped tooth? My dentist seems to charge whatever goes and he never seems to have a clear cut pricing policy, although he is extremely good at what he does, hence he can charge whatever he likes! I’d just like to know what normal dentists charge. Thanks

How can i repair surface tooth loss from my front teeth

Friday, August 15th, 2008
Q.
Hello there. I have recently noticed that i have quite bad surface tooth loss on my top four front teeth. Because of this where the bottoms of my front top teeth are quite thin and fragile, one is now starting to chip. My dentist has confirmed this to me. The answer they gave me was ” there is no repair” just prevention work to make sure this problem does not get any worse. But i do want to repair my teeth and stop these chips from happening anymore. I feel i can no longer smile at people because although tiny, these chips feel massive to me. the tooth surface loss in sadly to my having my tongue pierced in my early youth and i used to roll the stud along my upper teeth, and also alot of fizzy drinks. What treatment would you reccomend and what sort of price am i looking at.

Can I have my veneers replaced with composite veneers

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
Q.
Dr. Caplan, I have been a case of bad denistry. I had six top porcelain veeners at age 18 that are now bulky, fake looking and long. I used to have a small chip.I am 23 now. I want to have them removed and want the doctor to use composite resin to shape them the same as my old teeth to get my character back. Can this be done? I know it takes a lot of skills from the doctor. Have you ever heard this case before? Even though I have tooth removal, can composite replace my porcelain case. I know I will have more maintenace however, I like the composite look a lot better. Thank you for your time.
