Hello Doctor Hughes, I have been suffering with abscesses in my gum for as long as I can remember I’m only 22 and have about 10 if not more a year…some bigger then others, I have asked my dentist what I can do but haven’t really got any good advice off them. I have had one of my teeth drilled and drained but it keeps refilling. my bottom teeth come away from the gums and cause pain and unpleasent feeling. I brush my teeth twice a day some times more, just can’t take the pain no more and need to do something about them. I have been told to look into veneers but I do like my teeth there not horrible … And do think I am young to have them. Just need help or pushed in the right direction to stop all this pain thank u for taking time to read this.

Friday, January 25th, 2013I currently have a bridge over a front missing tooth, anchored on both sides. The remaining front tooth that is an anchor has a root fill, this was done some 20 years ago. I have some gingivitus around the gum line of this tooth and now have discomfort on the very top edge of the bridged tooth up against the gum line. The bridge is very firm, but I feel discomfort when pressure is put on the tooth. I have been given Amoxicillin which has not eased the problem. I have had an Xray and the root canal is still good with no absess or problems showing on the xray but there is a metal plate on the back of the bridge that covers anything that may be going on with the tooth itself. I am paranoid about them doing anything with the bridge in case I end up loosing the front anchoring tooth. The dentist has suggested a course of flagyl next stept. I do lots of lectures and am very self concious about my speech and my appearance – what should I do not please?
Have I Made A Mistake Shaving So Much Of My Tooth Off?

I went in this morning to get molds done for veneers (10) for smile enhancement; brighter smile and a front chipped tooth about 1 month ago (composite placed to reshape 2 front teeth back in 2004) . So, I chose to do this because I also used to drink a lot if acidic drinks and I thought getting veneers would help preserve my original teeth. The Dr. ended up shaving a lot more tooth than I expected and I feel awful and think I’ve made a bad decision. The Dr. said I had abscessed teeth, but when I looked up what that meant, I never had any pus-filled pockets or any other signs of the definition. He says everything will be fine, that they use e-max with a 7 year warranty and my teeth will look great once they are placed on. Do you any advice? I regret letting him shave off so much tooth, but it was too late after I realized how much was being removed. Any re-assurance would be great, but I’ll take any advice you can provide me. Thanks.
I haven’t seen a dentist for 8 years and my teeth are in a state, what should I do?
Wednesday, December 5th, 2012Hi Dr Hughes, i have not seen a dentist for 8 years through fear, i have suffered absesses until they have burst on their own, i have lost teeth that were on stems, one of them has snapped off, i have bought tooth adhesive and stuck some of them in myself, very loose and tried to fill in gaps with the adhesive,i have exposed areas where crowns have broken off and i am just left with the decayed bit at gum level, i am finding it increasingly difficult to eat anything solid is there anything at all that can be done? do you do sedation? i am so scared of the dentist and this is why my teeth have gotten into such a bad state over the years. thank you for your time and help.
