Why have I been told I have signs of gum disease?

Q. Hi! I went to my dentist recently and he told me that i was “starting” with gum disease in my bottom left corner. My teeth do bleed when the dentist cleans them and a little when i floss, other than that my teeth are fine. He didn’t seem alarmed at this, but it alarmed me! It sounds really bad! I asked him if i actually had gum disease and he said no, but to take care, visit the dentist every 6 months and floss etc. I had a baby just over a year ago and my teeth started bleeding more when pregnant. Im scared now that i am going to lose my teeth and have an electric tooth brush, floss 3 times a day, brush 3 times a day, and use antibacterial mouthwash twice a day. My parents have recently had dental implants due to gum disease but they both smoked heavily all their lives and didnt take care of their teeth. Is it hereditary? Im scared to death! Also (im not sure if im being paranoid) but i think a gap between my 2 front teeth has appeared slightly and im worried this means my gums are residing? Do gaps appear for any other reason? Im going to visit my dads private dentist in February but wanted some advice now as im panicking a bit! I know gum disease takes time to get worse but im terrified of losing my teeth! Thank you very much! Oh and i dont smoke and never have! im 24! Thank you…,
A. It sounds like your doing all the right things with the cleaning. I would also recommend regular visits with a Hygienist and monitoring with the dentist. Gum disease is hereditary but is made much worse if you have poor oral hygiene or smoke. See what your new dentist says as a 2nd opinion would be good to get
