I hard a crack when I was eating and am worried my filling has cracked. How can I know though?

Q. Hi Dr. Verma, I just wanted to ask how do I know if I have a cracked filling? I was eating tonight and I heard a crack but didn’t feel anything in my mouth. But I just wanted to check if there is someway I would know if my filling is cracked. Will I taste something strange in my mouth? If so how quickly should I get to the dentist? ,
A. Hi, If you have felt a crack on eating I would definitely book an appointent with your dentist just to makesure all is well in your mouth and jaw joints. Often you can feel a hole in your mouth if a tooth/filling is cracked. This may or may not feel sensitive or painful. Sometimes you may not even notice a crack in a filling and the first time it comes to light is when your dentist notices it. So my advice is to phone your dentist tomorrow and put your mind at rest. Hope this helps, Sunita
