World’s First Ultrasound Toothbrush Launched

The world’s first no-brush toothbrush has been launched; the new Emmi-dent brush uses ultrasound technology to clean the teeth. This is the first brush to use ultrasound alone to clean the teeth; in the past, ultrasound has been used in electric toothbrush designs, but this is the first ‘no-brushing’ brush.

The Emmi-dent toothbrush, which is priced at £79.95, makes an incredible 86 million sound waves per minute, in comparison to the popular Phillips Sonicare brush, which makes 31,000 sound waves per minute.

The manufacturers of the toothbrush have also created a special form of toothpaste to use with the brush. The technology behind the toothbrush causes millions of tiny bubbles to be created, which clean and polish the teeth and remove bacteria and food particles. The technology also kills bacteria on the brush head.

Professor Damien Walmsley, from the British Dental Association, said that further tests should be carried out on the Emmi-dent brush to confirm that the brush is as effective as the manufacturers claim. Professor Walmsley added that the most important oral health factors included brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and avoiding excessive consumption of sweet and acidic foods and drinks, which attack and wear down the protective enamel surfaces of the teeth.
