The organisers of a free dental event in Hartford, Connecticut, are expecting more than 2,000 people to turn up at the XL Center this weekend.

On Friday 16th September, the doors to the two day event will open, enabling people on low incomes and those without insurance to access the dental treatment they need. The annual event is run by the Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach.

Over the course of the 2 days, the centre will be converted into a temporary dental clinic, which boasts 146 dental chairs staffed by more than 1,200 dentists, dental nurses and hygienists. The aim of the clinic is to provide dental care for those who cannot afford to see a dentist.

Appointments will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, and the organisers are hoping to see more than 2,000 patients over the weekend.

The clinic moves to different locations offering local people the chance to take advantage of free treatment. The last time it was in Hartford, in 2014, dentists treated more than 2,200 patients, carrying out more than $1.5 million worth of treatment.

A range of treatments, including extractions, fillings, cleaning treatments and root canal therapy will be available.
