Thousands of candidates braved torrential rain in Lahore to sit the entrance test for dentistry and medicine courses.

It is estimated that around 31,000 candidates turned up at 23 centres in 12 different cities in the Punjab province. The test began at 9am and finished at 11:30am; students who sat the test said they were pleased with the arrangements and organisation and said that the set-up was a vast improvement on previous years.

The candidates are battling for places at medical and dental schools, with 4,000 medical places and 600 dental places up for grabs; of these places, around 3,145 medical places and 216 dental places are available in public universities and colleges, while 1,200 medical places and 400 dental places are available in private colleges.

The candidates now have an anxious wait ahead, as they wait for the telephone to ring or the letter to slip through the door. It is not yet clear when the results will be released.
