A dental practice in Stretford has been encouraging young patients to brush up on their oral hygiene skills and indulge their creativity by running a colouring competition. Poppies Dental Care invited local children to take part in the competition in a bid to win prizes.

The practice team decided to host the competition to make the experience of going to the dentist more fun and less daunting for kids and also to encourage them to look after their teeth and gums. For many children, the dental surgery can be a scary place and the competition provided a welcome distraction for many young visitors.

The practice ran three separate competitions according to age and the prizes were recently awarded to the lucky winners. Each of the winners received colouring pencils, dental products and a gift in recognition of their efforts.

Yvonne Lilley, practice manager, said that the colouring contest was something light-hearted and fun that the children enjoyed. It made their time at the practice more enjoyable and it will hopefully encourage them to look after their teeth and gums and to learn that going to the dentist doesn’t have to be scary.

Winners included Damian Adamiuk, Mark Landa, Thomas Reynolds, Husna Khalid, Helen Howarth, Nicola Finn and Oliver Field. The winners were aged between 3 and 9 years old.
