Plan to open a new dental surgery in a Cardiff shopping centre have been approved, it has been confirmed.

Planners from Cardiff City Council have given proposals to turn a vacant unit in Queens Arcade into a dental surgery the green light. The new practice will occupy the space formerly used by independent store, Moti, which has relocated to another part of town. The unit is situated next to Ryman’s stationers and is directly opposite Argos.

Supporting documents submitted with the plans state that opening a dental surgery would diversify the use of the arcade, and increase footfall in the pedestrianised area of Cardiff. The plans also suggested that people who are visiting the dentist may choose to pursue other activities, including shopping or eating out in the city centre.

News of the practice has sparked interest, not least because the new surgery will be located just one unit away from a specialist confectionary store, which targets those with a “sweet tooth.” Americandy stocks a range of best-selling confectionary products from the US, as well as a few home-grown options.

Further information about the development is set to be released in the coming weeks.
