Petersfield pensioner left with £3,000 dental bill after discovering a pin in her cheese

A pensioner from Petersfield has been left with a £3,000 dental bill after biting down on a lump of cheese, which she later discovered contained a dressmaker’s pin.

Penny Curran, 71, appealed to Tesco to cover the cost of dental treatment after she discovered the pin in a block of cheese she had purchased from the supermarket. However, her plea was subsequently rejected. The supermarket investigated the incident, and representatives claimed that the pin had not come from the supply chain.

Penny bought the Ossau Iraty ewes’ milk cheese from the Petersfield store, and was horrified to find a pin, which measured around an inch, in a lump she had bitten off and started to chew. Fortunately, Penny didn’t swallow the pin, but she did need dental treatment to repair a bridge and a chipped tooth, which cost almost £3,000.

Penny, from Nyewood, has been shopping at Tesco for years, and she said that she is incredibly disappointed with the outcome of their investigation. She claims that there is no reason why she should be expected to pay for dental treatment, and said that she is now considering taking the matter to court.
