Paediatric Dental Services Expanded in Cornwall, Ontario

Sample News Big

Access to paediatric dental services has improved in Cornwall, thanks to the expansion of dental surgery at Cornwall Community Hospital.

The hospital will now provide an extra 315 paediatric dental procedures with general anaesthesia before the end of the fiscal year in March 2012. The average waiting time has already been reduced by 216 days since April 2011 and this is set to continue.

The expansion has been funded by an investment of $335,000. Jeanette Despatie, chief executive officer of Cornwall Community Hospital, said that the need for expanded services was identified early this year and officials were working to secure more funding to improve access to paediatric care. She added that now, thanks to the investment, more children will be able to receive the procedures they need without having to wait for long periods of time. The expansion will also allow children from the Cornwall area who are currently on waiting lists at private clinics and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, to be treated at CCH, which will be closer to home.

Cornwall Community Hospital is dedicated to providing oral health education, as well as dental treatment, with the aim is to inform people about oral hygiene and steps they can take to try and prevent oral health diseases.
