No Plans to Create Additional NHS Dental Places in Glamorgan

Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies AM, has learned that there are to be no new NHS dental places in the Vale of Glamorgan within the foreseeable future.

Mr Davies AM went to meet with Adam Cairns, chief executive of the Cardiff and Vale Health Board, and was told that the area’s dental services were subject to a rapidly increasing population and that there are currently no plans to reduce the growing demands for NHS dental places.

Mr Davies has said that currently, the health board deals with provision based on area, rather than splitting the Vale and Cardiff into two individual parts.

He states that sadly, no Glamorgan NHS practices are currently recruiting new patients, meaning that a lot of affected constituents are contacting Mr Davies to voice their concerns.

The health board have advised that patients seek a place on the 15-20 dental practices that are available in surrounding areas, to the east of Cardiff and far west, towards Bridgend.

Mr Davies also says that he will press for further funding from the Welsh government.
