A review by the Citizen’s Advice Bureau has revealed that access to NHS dental services has improved in Eastbourne.

The review, which surveyed Eastbourne residents in 2009 and compared the results to a survey in 2007, found that access to services has improved considerably. Since 2007, the number of dental practices accepting NHS patients has doubled and a large number of patients have been able to register with a dentist closer to their home; 94 percent of patients now visit a dentist within 5 miles of their home.

The review also shows that waiting lists have been cut significantly; 59 percent of patients are now seen within two weeks, which compares favourably to the figure of 34 percent in 2007.

Representatives from the local NHS trust say that the results of the review are very encouraging and they hope that further improvements since the survey was carried out in 2009.
