A survey has revealed that more people are using credit cards or taking out loans to pay dental bills.

The survey, which was carried out by Simplyhealth, showed that more people are using credit cards and borrowing money from family or friends or taking out a payday loan to pay for dental treatment over £200.

Simplyhealth surveyed 5000 adults in the UK; the results showed that 40 per cent of people used a credit card to pay dental bills over £200, while 11 per cent used a bank loan or a payday loan to cover dental bills. Six per cent of people said that they borrowed money from friends or family.

The survey showed that more than half of people are worried about being able to afford dental treatment; 28 per cent of people surveyed also admitted to putting off going to the dentist because of money worries.

Simplyhealth spokesman, James Glover, said that the findings of the survey clearly show that a large number of people are worried about funding dental treatment. He recommended taking out a dental plan to cover the cost of treatment; most dental insurance plans involve paying a small sum of money per month is return for cover over a set period of time, usually one year.
