Maidstone dental nurse hopeful of pageant success

A dental nurse from Maidstone, Kent, is hoping to put the past behind her as she competes in the southern heat of the Empress Pageant. Jill Fogg was bullied as a child and has been subjected to cruel taunts about her height and her weight. This weekend (Saturday 24th March), Jill will compete in Southampton to make it to the next round of the heats. If she is successful, she could end up on the global stage attempting to win the coveted crown.

Dental nurse, Jill, 27, said that she has been bullied throughout her life, and she is hoping that success in the pageant will silence those who have been unkind in the past. Jill first decided to compete in 2010 as she didn’t have many girlfriends and she wanted to boost her confidence and become more outgoing. Originally from The Wirral, Jill moved to Maidstone in 2016 to live with her partner. When she broke up with him, she received abuse on social media and people also made unpleasant comments about the fact that she went to church.

Jill is hoping that her story will inspire other people who have been bullied, especially those who have received abuse online. Jill said it’s very easy to taunt people from behind a computer screen, but urged those who are being targeted to seek help and stay strong.
