Members of staff from the George Eliot Special Care Dental Service are all smiles after their hard work and dedication was recognised by the British Dental Association. The service has recently been awarded accreditation for the Quality in Dental Services scheme, which is run by the BDA in conjunction with the Community Services Dental Group and the Salaried Dentist’s Committee.

The dental team, which is based at the George Eliot Hospital, has been working towards the goal of accreditation for a long time now and everyone is delighted to receive the award. The scheme is designed to recognise high standards of patient care in addition to efficient management and organisation, patient involvement and work in the community and resources and development. The hospital team was inspected by an external team in July.

A spokesperson for the health trust confirmed that following an inspection in July, the hospital team had been awarded Quality in Dental Services accreditation and added that everyone is very proud of the achievement, which is an excellent award for both the dental service and the trust as a whole.

Tina Smith, dental services manager, said that the entire team is absolutely thrilled with the news, especially as everyone has worked so hard to reach the goal of accreditation and prove to the panel that the service offers excellent standards of care and a clear commitment to patient health and welfare.
