German dental students access E-learning platform
German dental students are experiencing a taste of the future, as they access an E-learning platform to conduct their studies.
The students from Mainz University can now access and download case studies, images, disease patterns and details of surgical procedures at the click of a button; the new learning system will allow them to access a wealth of information wherever they are in a matter of seconds.
The learning platform also allows students to access a huge range of resources and information, as well as being able to create an interactive, virtual environment for students to develop their skills and learn.
The new learning system is a revolution for students; until very recently, learning was focused on sitting in a lecture theatre or watching a dentist carry out a procedure; now, students are granted a much more multi-faceted approach to learning and are able to use a variety of different materials and resources.
The case studies available on the E-learning platform mirror real-life scenarios and enable dental students to see what would happen in that situation before they encounter it in the real world; the virtual environment has not been introduced to replace face to face learning, but rather to enhance the process of learning and equip students with a wealth of knowledge and skills.
Initial feedback from students has been very positive; they feel it offers them flexibility and independence, as well as being interesting and innovative.
