A free dental clinic has been confirmed for October 2014 in Morehead; Remote Area Medical will be hosting a free dental event to provide hundreds of people with much-needed dental treatment.

Morehead’s State Center for Regional Engagement confirmed that the Remote Area Medical event will be taking place in October next year, with a budget of $300,000 for treatment.

The clinic will be providing dental care in addition to eye care and medical screening checks. Remote Area Medical was founded in 1985 by Stan Brock, who is best known for appearing on the television programme, Wild Kingdom.

The original aim was to provide medical care in the developing world, but the charity now supports projects in the USA.

Linda Golebiewski, from the Center for Regional Engagement, was heavily involved in bringing the clinic to Morehead and she is expecting between 1,000 and 1,200 people to be seen during the two-day event. She said that the news was a blessing.

The clinic will take place at Rowan County Middle School and treatments will be available from 6am on Saturday 25th October and Sunday 26th October. There will be around 70 dental chairs and care will be provided by local dentists, members of staff and students from the University of Kentucky dental school.

Eye tests will also be available and Ms Golebiewski said that glasses will be given out to patients. Screening checks, such as cholesterol tests and mammograms, will also be available.
