A dentist from North London has been named UK National Dentist of the Year for the second time; periodontist, Peter Galgut was revealed as the winner of this year’s award, after previously topping the list of the best dentists in the UK in 2010.

Dr Galgut, who practises in Golders Green, was named the best dentist by the British Dental Health Foundation. This is the first time a dentist has won the award twice.

The award is handed out in recognition of commitment to the profession and exceptional standards of patient care. Dr Galgut is highly regarded in his field, he has been involved in numerous charity projects and he actively promotes preventative oral health measures.

Dr Galgut said that he was “honoured to be recognised twice for my lifetime’s work” and added that he has always aimed to show colleagues and patients that preventative dental care really can make a huge difference. He also said that he is eager to continue to try and raise awareness of the link between poor oral health and gum disease and systemic health problems and he hopes that people will take notice of studies and research projects, which show that neglecting your oral health increases your risk of serious illnesses.

Dr Galgut is based in Golders Green, North London but he sees patients from all over the UK and further afield. In addition to his clinical work, Dr Galgut also mentors and teaches.
