Dentist Develops New Musical Drill To Soothe Patient Fears

Dentist and creative practitioner, Dhanni Gustiana, has recently created the singing drill to distract younger patients by covering the sound of the fearful dental drill. Mr Gustiana has been trialling the new innovative product at his practice in Purworejo, which is located within the Central Java area of Indonesia.

Mr Gustiana adapted a traditional dental drill to play music via an MP3 player, so that patients are drawn to the music, rather than the whirring sound of the drill. A fear of the drill is very common among patients and this new development could help to make the treatment process less daunting.

The drill has been a big hit particularly among younger patients, who enjoy making requests and listening to their favourite songs while they sit in the dental chair. Mr Gustiana has also further developed the drill for children, by adding a toy to the top of the drill, complete with disco lights. He tells the children that the toy is going to help to clean their teeth and they seem to feel much more comfortable with this approach.

Mr Gustiana has spent around £370 adapting the drill but he feels that it is worth every penny.
