The sentencing of New York rapper Lil Wayne has been postponed for dental reasons.

Grammy Award-winning rap star Wayne’s sentencing for his involvement in a gun crime was postponed on Tuesday 8 February 2010 because he requires dental surgery.

It is believed that Wayne, 27, has to finish the course of surgeries he has been undergoing before he goes to jail for up to a year.

Sentencing now is scheduled for Tuesday 2 March 2010 at Manhattan state Supreme Court.

Stacey Richman, Wayne’s lawyer, told the court that her client needed to return to his Miami home on Friday for dental treatment that “had to be addressed&rdquo

She also claimed that Wayne had tried to receive treatment before the sentencing hearing but his dentist had been abroad doing charity work.

Joan Illuzzi-Orbon, assistant district attorney, did not contest the delay request as she said she had also spoken with Wayne’s dentist.

In October 2009, Wayne admitted criminal possession of a weapon and illegally loading a semi-automatic gun in July 2007 while aboard his tour bus.
