A dental practice manager from Arizona has been charged with fraud.

Kathy Salazar was sentenced to spend one year in prison at the Apache County Superior Court after she pleaded guilty to charges of insurance fraud. The 51 year old, who worked at a practice in St John’s, admitted that she had submitted false insurance claims. Salazar claimed insurance payments for treatments which never even carried out and profited from the money herself, the court heard.

In addition to the one year prison sentence, Salazar was also ordered to pay a fine of five thousand dollars and a sum of $88,000 to the dentist she worked under for more than twenty eight years. She will also be placed under probation for a further seven years after the jail term has been completed.

Police investigating the case say the felony was uncovered after a routine audit by Delta Dental showed anomalies in the accounts.
