Dental Chair Up for Grabs on eBay as part of Yorkshire Prison Clearout

Sample News Big

Hambleton Council has listed a dental chair, previously used to treat prisoners at Northallerton Prison, on popular auction site eBay.

The chair, which was upholstered shortly before the prison was closed down in 2013, is in good condition and has been listed with a reserve price of £1,000. It has been removed from the healing wing of the former North Yorkshire jail, which is due to be demolished in the near future.

When the prison shut, Hambleton Council acquired the site for £1.4 million. After clearing out the buildings, councillors decided that it would be best to auction off some of the items. The dental chair is perhaps the most unusual lot up for grabs. Councillor Mark Robson said the chair was in excellent condition and had only recently been installed when the prison closed down. The council was surprised to find that it had been left behind the chair and it is now up for sale online.

The council now has plans to regenerate the site, however, some of the listed buildings will remain in place.

The lucky bidder will be required to move and dismantle the chair.
