A dental duo from Chelmsford is preparing to jet off to Tanzania as part of a project run by Bridge2Aid.

Dentist James Goodlad will be joined on the charity mission by dental nurse Tracy Davies. The Pomfret and Farrell Dental Surgery team will be travelling out to Africa to provide basic dental care to people in need and training to dental practitioners.

Tracy is taking part in the challenge, despite battling multiple sclerosis. She was diagnosed in 2012, but remains very active and continues to work at the surgery. She has never attempted a challenge like this before and is hugely excited at the prospect of visiting Tanzania. Tracy underwent thorough health checks before signing up to the project and she is looking forward to giving it her all. She believes that the trip will “put everything into perspective” and offers a perfect opportunity for the duo to give something back.

During their time in Tanzania, the pair will be staying with other volunteers in a rural community. They will be travelling over an hour each day to reach a very basic clinic, where they will hand out supplies, provide treatment and offer guidance and training to practitioners. Their knowledge and skills will enable the practitioners to develop their own skills and provide treatment for local people long after the volunteers have returned home.

James and Tracy have been working hard to hit the fundraising target of £4,500 to cover the cost of the trip. They were inspired to sign up after seeing Bridge2Aid’s display at a dental event.

Anyone who wishes to donate is urged to call into the practice.
