Botox industry 'needs self-regulation'
Sally Taber of the Independent Healthcare Advisory Services (IHAS) made her comments to BBC One's Breakfast programme, claiming that the government has asked her organisation to suggest a form of self-regulation for the industry.
Ms Taber said: "What we are concerned about is those staff that are doing it who do not have the correct qualifications and who are doing it in inappropriate premises."
People need to be trained with specific and appropriate courses, she added.
The suggested IHAS standards will reference the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Medicines Act, continued Ms Taber, explaining that the recommendations will include greater scrutiny from alternative regulators.
Reported by the Daily Mail, David Bloom, president elect of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, recently commented that dentists are adequately trained to perform Botox as they are familiar with needles, injections and anaesthetics.
