Ambulatory Healthcare Services, part of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, has announced a series of workshops to educate parents about oral hygiene and healthy living for children.

AHS will run a series of workshops to focus on health issues affecting children aged between 6 and 12 years old. The event will take place at the 23rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre.

One of the central exhibits will be the ‘meet your friend the dentist’ workshop, which is designed to help children understand the process of visiting their dentist. The workshop should also ease any fears in which the children may hold for future visits. Dentists will be on hand to show children the instruments which are used, to educate them on oral hygiene and to show them how to maintain good oral health.

Dentists will also provide free dental check-ups for children and a certificate to confirm that the child has had a dental check.

Nurses will also be hosting a workshop to educate children about the importance of personal hygiene and aims to show them how to wash their hands properly, for example. Nurses will be using ultraviolet light to show children the bacteria present on their hands and so encourage children to wash them on a regular basis. They will also be talking to children about healthy eating and will teach them about the importance of a healthy diet. Interactive activities will also be used, such as planning a menu and colouring in healthy food options, to get children involved in the session.

The International Book Fair will take place between the 24th and 29th April.
