Biography for Dr Hamish Gillespie

Dr Hamish Gillespie attained his qualifications from Guy’s Hospital, London in 1982 and went on to work in hospitals concentrating on oral and maxillofacial surgery, before joining the Royal Army Dental Corps in 1988. He has served in Germany, Iraq, Kosovo and the UK, and then travelled to the USA to join the US Army Dental Corps on loan.

Hamish was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons, England, where he sat the special exam in Oral Surgery, and he has achieved Specialist Registrar status in Oral Surgery with the General Dental Council.

He undertook the MSc programme in Conservative Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital and achieved a Master’s qualification with distinction from University College, London in 2000. He was also joint victor of the 3M Dental Prize in this time.

After leaving the army Hamish joined Clock Tower Dental Care, where he has become an important member of the dental team. He also works at Leeds Dental Institute as a Clinical Teaching Fellow.

Hamish is married and has four children and enjoys spending time with his family, cycling and mountaineering.
